Candidates are invited to apply for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Special Education position in the Department of Learning and Instruction to begin August 2013. The Department offers an Ed.D. in Learning and Instruction (with a concentration in Special Education) and a Master?s degree/Education Specialist Mild Moderate Credential. The Master?s degree/Education Specialist Mild Moderate credential program prepares interns for full-time special education teaching positions in high-need, diverse, and urban settings (e.g., English learners, recent immigrants, high-poverty schools, low-performing schools). The Ed.D. in Learning and Instruction (with a concentration in Special Education) prepares special education faculty/researchers for institutions of higher education with an emphasis on high-need students with disabilities in a variety of settings. It is one of five doctoral programs in the USF School of Education.

Responsibilities:

- Teach, mentor, and advise students in Master?s/Credential program

- Chair Master?s Thesis/Field Projects

- Publish scholarly work in special education

- Co-teach or teach a doctoral course in special education

- Serve on or chair doctoral dissertation committees

- Program development and assessment activities

- Provide service to the department, University, and profession

Required Qualifications:

- Candidates must have a doctoral degree in Special Education with a specialization in mild to moderate disabilities

- Minimum three years full-time K-12 teaching experience in special education with students with mild to moderate disabilities from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds

- California Education Specialist credential (mild to moderate) or comparable out-of-state credential

- Higher education teaching experience

- Demonstrated record of scholarly achievement

- Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills
