That?s the import of Jones-Drew?s extensive remarks from Thursday, at which time he said he didn?t think his holdout would extend so deep into the preseason.
?I didn?t think it would get to this point, from where it started,? Jones-Drew said Thursday during a local appearance, via Garry Smits of the Florida Times-Union.
It has gotten to this point only because owner Shahid Khan hasn?t blinked.? And Jones-Drew apparently thought Khan would.
Jones-Drew said plenty more during a 12-minute chat with the Times-Union and a pair of local TV stations.? It was smart for Jones-Drew to finally make himself heard to the folks in Jacksonville, because even though he claims to be getting a lot of support via Twitter, the folks in Jacksonville generally seem to be aligned with Khan?s ?get on the train? mentality.? Indeed, when Jones-Drew was introduced to judge a dance contest at a local car dealership, there were ?scattered boos? in the crowd of roughly 100.
And while Jones-Drew said he?d love to finish his career in Jacksonville, he didn?t rule out a trade.? Which likely means that he would welcome one.
?You?d have to talk to the Jaguars about that,? Jones-Drew said of a possible trade.? ?They?re the ones who have to go through with any deal.?
The issue arises from Jones-Drew?s belief that he has outperformed the deal he signed in 2009.? ?Guys get cut with multiple years left on their contracts,? Jones-Drew said. ?I don?t see any difference [in his holding out for more money].? Guys perform, but not to their compensation and they get asked to take a pay cut or get released.? It?s a production-based business.? If you don?t perform, you get cut.? If you do perform, you get rewarded with cash payment.?
He?s right.? The system permits players under contract to hold out for more, if they are willing to risk incurring $30,000 per day in fines.? And, eventually, losing game checks.
The problem here? is that Khan isn?t required to give Jones-Drew a new contract.? After all, it?s not as if he?s the missing piece to a Super Bowl run.? The Jags have had only one winning season during Jones-Drew?s six years with the team.? When he lead the league in rushing last season, they were 5-11.
Jones-Drew also expressed concern that Khan?s comments made the player feel unappreciated, but Jones-Drew later said that he likes the fact that Khan ?always speaks his mind.?
Our take?? Jones-Drew wants to come back.? Now Khan needs to give Jones-Drew a way to save face.
Waiving fines that will hit $900,000 on Friday could be the only way to do that, unless Khan can find a way to give Jones-Drew a new deal while still honoring Khan?s claim that there will be no new deal.

I-CAR to Serve as 'Linking Pin' and Portal for OEM Repair Procedures
I-CAR has developed a ?Conceptual Solution Set? that it says will help the collision repair inter-industry work more closely with OEMs. This proposed solution set will strive for uniformity and effectiveness of OEM repair procedures and make this repair procedure information, as well as general knowledge required by the industry to perform complete and safe repairs, more easily accessible.
In response to the industry request conveyed to I-CAR at the November 2011 Collision Industry Conference meeting in Las Vegas, I-CAR plans to lead this initiative in an effort to expand the value it delivers to the industry.
I-CAR CEO & President John Van Alstyne introduced the solution during the 2012 I-CAR Industry Event in San Antonio, stating that it will integrate five key elements that collectively address the needs identified by the industry.
The central element of the plan involves I-CAR acting as the "linking pin" between the collision repair inter- industry and vehicle OEMs. It also involves development of the I-CAR Industry Knowledge Portal, which will facilitate the dialogue and communication link between the industry and OEMs.
Plans include cross-industry council meetings to help guide the initiative, semi-annual repairability summits to address identified repairability issues, and online dialogue forums for sharing information and providing feedback and insights. The solution set is to be validated and confirmed through the remainder of 2012 and into 2013, with implementation readiness currently targeted for mid-2013.
The five key elements that make up the proposed solution have been outlined as follows:
? Repairability Council ? A council process led by I-CAR that would focus on defining the information needs of the industry, particularly how industry professionals prefer receiving information, refining methods for feedback on repair processes to I-CAR and OEMs, and general feedback on how the overall program is working.
? Industry Knowledge Portal ? Accessed through www.i-car.com, this centralized one-stop shop portal would link the industry with the various knowledge sources available across the industry and will be the engine behind the Repairability Forum.
? Repairability Forum ? An online environment where the industry can share ideas, issues and feedback for I-CAR and OEM consideration. A real-time discussion network is also envisioned to help the industry share innovations and best practices.
? Repairability Summits ? I-CAR-led, topic-specific, inter-industry problem solving event(s) to resolve repair issues of common industry concern to establish best practices for repairs that can be considered by vehicle OEMs and others. Summits are expected to be held semi-annually.
? Industry/OEM Linking Pin ? I-CAR would increasingly engage with vehicle OEM technical service teams, encouraging uniformity of repair information formatting and availability, providing OEMs with access to information received through forums and summits, as well as feedback on possible enhancements to repair procedures. I-CAR would plan to continue recommending in its core technical training courses that OEM repair procedures be followed.
?We believe I-CAR is uniquely positioned and equipped to effectively perform this role; and by performing this role, will create true value for the industry," said Van Alstyne. "It's also important to understand what this initiative is not. I-CAR will not author nor publish repair procedures, however it may support vehicle OEMs with development of repair procedures that they may in turn publish.
"This is also not about I-CAR resolving industry commercial disputes or taking positions that might favor one entity versus another. It's critically important that I-CAR retain its neutral position on behalf of the industry in order to continue effectively doing its core work in industry education and knowledge building. Over the next several months, we'll be working with the various stakeholders involved, as well as with our board, to define the best final solution that meets the needs of the industry and which fits I-CAR?s vision, mission and capabilities. Our goal is simply to be of greater service to the industry we're designed to serve, and we see this service- solution initiative as a great step forward for I-CAR.?
As the conceptual solution was created, I-CAR sought input and feedback from the entities that originally requested it, including the Society of Collision Repair Specialists, Automotive Service Association, Alliance of Automotive Service Providers and Assured Performance Network.

Lakers highlight NBA offseason winners
It's been the kind of offseason you might hurt yourself celebrating, if you're a Los Angeles Laker.
Dwight Howard, Steve Nash, Antawn Jamison, Jodie Meeks ... it's not hard to figure out why Lakers coach Mike Brown couldn't contain himself recently.
"That might be the first hug they've gotten from their coach, ever, when it comes to a trade happening."
The Lakers are the big winners of this NBA offseason, adding a superstar center, two-time MVP point guard and two high-volume bench scorers without losing much of the team's core. After consecutive disappointing finishes, Los Angeles is again an elite title contender. Howard, Nash, Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and Metta World Peace constitute the best starting five in the NBA.

The team that gave them Howard, the Orlando Magic, sits on the opposite end of the spectrum. After six consecutive playoff trips starring Howard, the Magic are entering a new era, one that will take a long time.
The Magic received six players and three draft picks for Howard, Jason Richardson and two reserves. The best of the bunch is Arron Afflalo, a fine starter who was the Denver Nuggets' third-best player last season. He'll have to become a star if the Magic hope to hover near respectability, as they also lost power forward Ryan Anderson to the New Orleans Hornets.
USA TODAY Sports looks at three other winners and three more losers of the NBA offseason thus far:
Winner: Los Angeles Clippers
Things are getting more interesting by the minute in the City of Angels. The Clippers faced some adversity with injuries to power forward Blake Griffin and point guard Chris Paul in U.S. Olympic training camp. But both should be back for the start of the regular season. Moreover, the team returns Chauncey Billups, who played well off Paul before tearing his Achilles tendon. Grant Hill and Lamar Odom provide even more veteran support off the bench. And they replace Mo Williams and Nick Young with superior scoring sixth man Jamal Crawford.
Loser: Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cavaliers earned the lowest draft grade for overvaluing Dion Waiters and Tyler Zeller. Waiters had a weak showing in summer league play, though Zeller played well. But the Cavaliers did little else to build around last year's rookie of the year, Kyrie Irving, who has the look of a superstar. C.J. Miles is a serviceable bench player but likely will start for Cleveland. Small forward Omri Casspi, acquired for J.J. Hickson last season, reportedly is unhappy with the team despite his own poor play. And oft-injured center Anderson Varejao still is without a reliable backup.
Winner: Minnesota Timberwolves
Ricky Rubio made the T'wolves interesting last year, then tore ligaments in his knee and missed half the season. Getting Rubio back is only part of the reason Minnesota should rejoice. They added a pair of talented Russians, NBA veteran Andrei Kirilenko and rookie Alexey Shved, who starred for the bronze medalists in London. They got rid of two of the stranger No. 2 overall picks in recent years, Michael Beasley and Darko Milicic. And they picked up potential contributor Dante Cunningham from the Memphis Grizzlies for non-potential contributor Wayne Ellington.
Loser: Charlotte Bobcats
The team that set the record for futility last season did very little to improve itself this offseason. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist was a fine draft choice, though he doesn't answer the team's desperate need for scoring. They changed hands at point guard from D.J. Augustin to Ramon Sessions, who has slightly more upside but isn't better right now. They traded Corey Maggette for Ben Gordon, who is only marginally better than Maggette and has a longer, bigger contract. The result: They may challenge their own record-low .106 winning percentage this season.
Winner: Philadelphia 76ers
Andre Iguodala, Elton Brand and Lou Williams made the Sixers respectable for years, but they weren't going to bring the team a title. Andrew Bynum might. The center, acquired in the Howard trade, has tremendous upside even seven seasons into his NBA career. He turns 25 in October and now will get to unleash his full potential without Bryant chucking shots from all angles. Richardson, Dorell Wright and Nick Young are solid scorers, and Richardson could find his groove again this year after struggling for the Magic. Moreover, Evan Turner and Thaddeus Young should blossom without veterans Iguodala and Brand taking their minutes and roles.
Loser: Toronto Raptors
The swing-and-miss bid for Nash was inevitable; he wanted to win a title, and the Raptors aren't there yet. But they also overpaid Landry Fields, an average small forward, and traded a potentially high 2013 draft pick for point guard Kyle Lowry. Lowry is an upgrade over Jose Calderon, who should be traded at any moment, but he isn't among the NBA's 15 best point guards. The good news is Jonas Valanciunas, the No. 5 pick in 2011, joins the team. The bad news is Valanciunas, who showed flashes of his potential in limited playing time for Lithuania during the London Olympics, isn't ready for the starting role he'll likely be thrust into from the start.

Money, lots of it, shapes Chinese ?expat? schools
When you pull up to the International School of Beijing (ISB), out in the suburbs among the gated villa compounds for mostly expats, you are in awe of the massive series of blocks; like Chinese modern architecture, it intends to impress with scope, rather than beauty. The orientation speaker jokes it can be seen along with the Great Wall from space (both can?t).
When we arrived in sweaty August 2009, it was a relief as a mom to see this huge, secure building, built mostly with American materials to last, and equipped with everything possible to take care of my kids seven hours a day. This was an oasis in the rapid urban turmoil that is Beijing.
And paradise it did seem compared to West Mercer?s three quick lunch shifts in the gym and the Mercer Island School District?s shrinking budget. Both ISB and MISD have roughly the same student population, albeit ISB houses them all in one long complex. ISB has four gyms, a swimming pool and two massive cafeterias, and last summer during its annual construction binge, it extended one to eliminate a lunch shift (and increase class schedule flexibility).
The two libraries (for K-8, 9-12) are bigger than Mercer Island?s library, but also for good reason: it is used by families ? no foreign library beyond these gates. ISB has a 600-person theatre, a black box and music studio rooms; the arts wing will be expanded according to the original plans. These plans were scaled back when first built, not because of funding, but because the Chinese government didn?t want the building to be too massive, and more importantly by forcing a change on a rich foreigner, saved face as the ultimate decision-maker in the land.
ISB has costs that are foreign to Mercer Island schools. Security is huge. Students attend security assemblies and are told to add the security chief?s phone number to their cell phones: call 24-7 anywhere in China. Drivers and ayis (all families employ help) are given IDs. The school is ringed with security gates and guards. Unbeknownst to many, ISB is the designated ?bunker destination? for Americans and Canadians (the British and Europeans are to go to the massive British School across the street), if Beijing politically implodes. ISB has its own food and water supply for that emergency situation.
And the air. When pollution levels (2.5 micron particles) hit 270 (in comparison, Seattle is under 5), recess and all sports are entirely cancelled. Despite IQ air purifiers everywhere, the view down the hallway can be hazy. Recess was cancelled one out of four days last year. During the summer construction binge, domes were constructed over the tennis court/playground and sports field.
Although labor is cheap, the price to maintain western standards is not. Tuition tops a good Seattle private school, but mostly this is paid by expats? companies. What does money buy? The value of small class size vs. good teacher can be debated, but I clearly saw that help and fewer kids mean less stress for teachers and more time devoted to each pupil. It doesn?t negate the effects of a bad teacher, but it boosts a good one. Like humans in general, quality and personal dedication to teaching one?s best can vary.
One Achilles heel of international schools is the 2-for-1 hiring decision reality: typically, the school hires two teaching spouses and it is a fluke that both are equally stellar. Money in order not to worry about resources is good, but too much can be a distraction. Often, enrichments ? visiting drummers from South Africa! A writer from the United States! A field trip to Shanghai! ? are a flurry of learning opportunities but don?t necessarily advance curriculum or the mission of a 21st century education.
A lean budget can mean a pared down focus.

Group: More implied nudity on broadcast TV
NEW YORK (AP) ? A watchdog group says broadcast television is implying a lot more nudity in prime time than it used to.
The Parents Television Council said Monday that its researchers found 76 instances where a person appeared nude, with private parts obscured, in prime time last season. It happened on 37 different shows.
The group says that's a sharp rise from the 15 instances the networks aired the previous season.
Examples include a couple skinny-dipping on "The Bachelor," Howie Mandel jokingly appearing nude in his dressing room at "America's Got Talent" and a naked man jumping out of a car trunk in the candid camera show "Betty White's Off Their Rockers."
In each case, the full nudity is obscured by pixilation or strategically placed objects.
